Turns the book over....
A thousand years ago, Konstantine Varinski roamed the Russian steppes. Driven by his craving for power, he struck a terrible bargain. In return for the ability to change from a magnificent warrior to a predator that could hunt down his enemies and kill them, he promised his soul — and the souls of his descedents — to the devil.
Plain Ann Smith loves her handsome, dynamic boss, Jasha Wilde, but her daring plan to seduce him goes awry when she finds a black wolf warming itself before the fire. Before her horrified eyes, the wolf changes into the man she adores. She flees, he pursues, but they can't escape their destinies.
For Jasha is the descendant of Konstantine Varinski and Ann is the woman fated to break the curse that binds his soul.
~Christi's thoughts ~ This review has the possibility to contain SPOILERS! As with every review I will try my best to NOT give TOO much away.
I loved the legend Christina wrapped this series around. Here is the legend or history of Konstantine Varinski ....
A thousand years ago, Konstantine Varinski, a magnificent warrior of savage cruelty, roamed the Russian steppes. Driven by his craving for power, he struck a terrible bargain. In return for the ability to change from a magnificent warrior into a predator that could hunt down his enemies wherever they hid, he promised his soul — and the souls of his descendants — to the devil. To Konstantine Varinski and to each Varinski since, the devil bequeathed long life and good health. They could not be killed in battle except by another demon. Because of their battle prowess, their endurance and decisiveness, they become rich, respected and feared. Through czars, Bolsheviks and even presidents, they retained their warrior compound, went where they were paid to go, and with flawless ferocity, crushed uprisings and demanded obedience. They called themselves THE DARKNESS. They could breed only sons, a matter of much exultation to them. With each child, they hailed the birth of a new demon, and raised the child to be a ruthless warrior worthy of the name Varinski.
For no Varinski ever falls in love … until one did.
No Varinski ever married … until one did.
No Varinski ever fled the compound and their way of life … until one did.
For the first time, cracks appeared in the solid foundation of the deal with the devil.
Heaven took note.
So did Hell.
This series was an odd one for me for I goofed and read the last book first. I have no idea how I did it for I checked on the order not once but a few times when I was looking for and purchasing the series. Once I had finished the book and went to the next and got through a chapter I was saying to myself "ummmm why does this seem like they are telling me the past?". So the Darkness Chosen books one through three were now a history lesson for me. It actually was a cool way to read the series, But I am going to give you the reviews in their intended order.
Jasha, the oldest of Konstantine's sons is everything a woman wants. . .he owns his own wine making company, he is smart, he is wealthy, he is handsome, he is assertive, and one little thing more. . . he is a wolf. . . oh my my my.
When sweet, shy, always dedicated to her job Ann is given the task of rushing a fast approaching deadline to Jasha she sees it as her chance to finally show her boss what is right in front his face. . . HER. What she didn't expect was for her to find out what has truely been in front of her face all this time. . . his wolf. She runs when she sees a wolf transform into her boss and Jasha acts on instinct and chases her into the woods. Instantly she finds out just what happens when you run from the big bad wolf.
Jasha and Ann are quickly shown that their attraction is equally felt and how destiny has a plan all it's own. While on the run through the deep woods Ann gets to learn that she now holds a piece of the relic and most of all Jasha's heart. Can she love a man who changes into a wolf? Is she strong enough to stand beside Jasha and fight the Varinski's so they can reach his mother and father to tell them of Ann's find?
Even though a lot of this book takes place in the woods you will find love doesn't care it will happen no matter what or where we are. The love sceens in this book are hot and some of them will make your toes curl and your breath to catch but they don't own the book. There is a lot of actual plot line and Christina fits the love story very nicely into the history she has built around Konstantine.
I really enjoyed this book. I most of all enjoyed the plot line. A very nice tale of the age old story of good verses evil. I hope you go out and get this book and hopefully the whole series for i really feel you will answer yes when you ask yourself.
Do I wanna read this?
