Turns the book over.......

Enter the dark, magical world of the house of night, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. Sixteen year old Zoey Redbird has just been marked as a fledgling vampyre and joins the House of Night a school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. That is, if she makes it through the change - and not all pof those who are marked do. It sucks to begin a new life , especially away from her friends, and to top off that , Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint her human ex- boyfriend. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the house of night with special powers: When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess - given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courge to embrace her destiny - witht he help from her new vampyre friends.

~Christi's thoughts ~ This review has the possibility to contain SPOILERS! As with every review I will try my best to NOT give TOO much away.

I shall open my first review with the blanket statement.... I really liked this book. Now if you are happy with that go buy, check out or borrow this book and get to reading. If not continue on to know why I liked it so much.

First off I run my household on the we can think for ourselves so we do not judge another and feel we have to change them idea, so when right off the bat this book showed a young girl being Marked not being given the chance to decide if she wanted this as her life or not, then her step-loser saying " get thee behind me Satan!" I knew this book was going to be good. I loved the diversity of the characters. White, black , gay, straight and best of all cowgirl. Yes it is true, even if WE aren't the wrangler, boots and hat family, they Do REALLY exisit here in Okieland and it was really cool to see that character in this book. Like I said WE aren't into the whole REAL cowboy/girl lifestyle we are city folk *laughs* BUT one thing that holds true to ALL Okies is the heart that the Cast's filled Stevie Ray with.
Someone I would add to my adopted family. The be there through thick and thin, rain or shine friend.

This series is for the Tween reader but can be enjoyed by adults. I say tween but if you are a parent reading this review know there is sexual content in this series and I would not recomend it to anyone who has not had THE TALK with someone. Now it is not over the top discription but it is the plain fact of sex discription. *spoiler* Someone walks up and catches someones in the act of oral... no overly details of the act just the details of how this person felt walking in on it. * end spoiler* In this day and age and having two teens myself, I know they learn a heck of a lot more a heck of a lot sooner then even I did just 17 years ago.

The Cast's did their homework and really added the details to the religion that is used in this series. Kudos girls you made me proud. So nice to see some of the faith side ( respect and pride ) and not just the magick.

The story line is a nice twist on vampyres, This is more a here is a different type of person and your chance to learn and understand them, watch them grow and change even the things that have been the same for eons. One of the things I wish was found more in real life and not just in books. Some of these people you start to really care about and others you wanna slap the snob right out of. Yes this is a high school themed time frame and of course you have the typical HS types... such as: preps, normals, nerds, geeks and those who use their looks for gain. The struggle Zoey is having to take in that she will BE a vamp IF she makes it through the Change, having to deal with the dramas high school has to offer, seeing gifts being used and abused in a social group of the school (Dark Daughters) ,not to mention being personally gifted by the Goddess and having to deal with a mentor who seems to have a hidden agenda of her own and maybe a hint of jealousy to boot, is a lot for one to handle but Zoey's new found friends help her out along the way.

If you are from Oklahoma or know the area you are going to enjoy the familiarity of the locations in this book. Me, well I grew up part time in the mentioned areas so ya I knew all of them very well. No I did not go looking for the House of night there... but wouldn't that be cool to find!!

So there it is my thoughts on Marked. Just a small note here.... the format they are written may change as Beth and I grow and learn how to GIVE a review. But for now I hope this helps you decide......

Do I wanna read this?
